Treasure Museum of the Virgen del Rocío

On July 10, 2014, the Bishop of Huelva blessed the Treasury of the Hermandad Matriz de Nuestra Señora del Rocío, installed in the stands of the Sanctuary of the Patron Saint of Almonte, being conditioned to allow access to anyone. Its rooms and display cases are used to preserve and exhibit some of the elements of the historical-artistic heritage of this centuries-old religious institution, which help us to understand the more than seven centuries of documented history of devotion to María Santísima del Rocío.

The oldest pieces on display are a tile panel dated 1696, the only piece preserved from the primitive religious building from the 13th century; as well as what is known as the Corona del Sol, the oldest piece of gold and silverware from the trousseau of the Blanca Paloma, dating from the 17th century.

A selection of pictorial votive offerings, two complete costumes, or the crown with which the Virgen del Rocío was canonically crowned on 8th June 1919, are some of the pieces that occupy the other display cases, apart from the trousseau of the transfers (sackcloth, cape, duster, hats and small cloths), documents, or gold and silver work, as well as a processional step of the Queen of the Marshes, donated in 1933, complete the exhibition space.

The visit culminates with the projection of a summary of the film Rocío. Rocío. Queen and Mother of Andalusia, in an intimate space from which there is a privileged view of the natural surroundings of Doñana, which helps us to understand one of the most pronounced vivas to the Virgen del Rocío, that of Queen of the Marshes.

In the same premises is the Pilgrim’s Office, which provides a service to pilgrims, institutions and brotherhoods, who want to participate in the religious or cultural experience of El Rocío, and is a support tool for all those who seek a religious experience in El Rocío, in individual and especially collective trips. The procedures that can be carried out at the Pilgrim Service Office are the following: scheduling a pilgrimage, mass, floral offering or other event related to the Sanctuary, requesting the Plenary Indulgence, sales of books, dvds and credentials of the pilgrim to Santiago among others.

The Pilgrim Assistance Office and the Treasure-Museum of Our Sra. del Rocío remain open from Wednesday to Sunday and on holidays.
