Almonte Wine Museum

The wine sector is one of the most deeply rooted sectors in Almonte; Expert visitors and fans of the world of wine are not only satisfied with uncorking and enjoying a good wine to celebrate an important event or to expand the flavors of good cuisine, but they also like to go one step further and delve into this millenary crop, know the varieties grown in a region and the climate or soil conditions that then define the organoleptic characteristics (aroma, color, flavor) of the wines. Wine culture, wine architecture, and wine landscape and wine itself come together in a proposal that seeks to convey the essence of artisanal production in the heart of Doñana. Thus, the visitor can delve into the aromas, colors and textures of some of the best wines in the County of Huelva at the Almonte Wine Museum.

Located on a winery complex dating from the end of the 19th century, the Wine Museum has become one of the most emblematic buildings in Almonte, where throughout its more than 1000m2 you can see, touch, feel, smell this long wine tradition; a space for promotion, dissemination and knowledge about the history and production of Almonte wines. The Museum proposes an organized itinerary in different thematic areas, dedicated to showing the various aspects that are part of the culture of wine. An educational and interactive journey to the essence of wine in a space that enhances our senses.

The smell of must that permeates the whole complex, evocative images that take us to the old winery, the aromas that our wines give off or the possibility of tasting them as part of the visit, are just some of the attractions that the museum offers.

The Wine Museum welcomes its visitors in a central courtyard where carts and animals loaded with freshly cut vines entered the field. A spectacular scenographic setting transports the visitor to the old winery where, through a series of original pieces, such as concrete vats where wine was formerly kept, the first works in winemaking are shown: how the grapes were trodden and the press with which the first must was extracted. A cellar with barrels made of American oak wood shows us the place where the mothers that gave body and character to the new wines were stored.

The visit will also show the process of vine cultivation throughout the four seasons of the year and the protagonist of our vineyards, the Zalema grape. The color of the grape and the maceration time will determine the shades of the Almonte wines, which in turn will emanate different aromas: bitter orange, liquorice, vanilla and more, thus giving different wine productions. All this will be enjoyed by the visitor through tastings, audiovisuals and interactive systems. Without a doubt, a pleasure for the senses.
